ABOUT TONY DILGER

This website showcases the work of freelance wildlife and nature photographer Tony Dilger. His achievements as a climber, caver and mountaineer testify to a life of exploration, adventure and sheer wanderlust. Notable exploits include the first descent of Low’s Gully on Borneo's Mt. Kinabalu, the world's most infamous ravine and scene of a major rescue when in 1995, a British Services Expedition became trapped for several weeks. The historic descent was filmed for Channel Four's To the Ends of the Earth series and Tony led the successful rigging team. For many years a dedicated rock-climber, he has completed high-grade ascents throughout the UK and abroad and is a former member of the Cave Rescue Organisation.

Tony’s imagery is highly individual and fired by a lifelong fascination for nature and wild places: His view through the lens another way of ‘exploring’. Having recently completed his BA (Hons) degree in Wildlife Photography, he is one of only a handful of people who have achieved a first on this cutting-edge course run by influential photographer Jon Rowe at Blackpool and The Fylde College.

In the field, Tony frequently teams up with another enthusiastic wildlife photographer; his wife Carol. Photographing nature demands being in the right place at the right time, which usually means using hides, lying around in mud and generally being intrepid. By contrast, Tony and Carol do it in style with what must be the ultimate accessory for traveling wildlife photographers; a well-equipped and rather posh motorhome.
